EastEnders actress Tracy-Ann Oberman has accused many in her profession of signing letters and speaking out in support of Palestine when they “don’t know anything about it.”
Her character Chrissy briefly reappeared in 2023, but she left the BBC soap in December 2005, when was sent to prison for the murder of her husband Den Watts, played by Lesley Grantham

The 59-year-old star, who returned to Albert Square as the character Chrissy Watts in the Christmas Day episode of the BBC soap, said that when she discusses the rise of antisemitism, the situation in the Middle East, and the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, she is fully informed.

Oberman explained that many actors and actresses she knows speak out on subjects that they really haven’t fully read or understood the implications of. She believes that even if people disagree with her views, they respect that her opinions come from a place of knowledge, understanding, and her own truth based on lived experience.

When she talks about antisemitism, the Middle East, and the events of October 7, she says she is well informed and that this is something she feels others in the industry and the public respect.

Oberman, who is Jewish herself and has an MBE, also shared that during a time when many actors of the same faith have felt the impact of rising antisemitism, her stance has helped her gain respect and find more work.

She also spoke about returning to her iconic EastEnders role for this year’s Christmas storyline, explaining she got a message asking if she’d like to come back for Christmas Day and thought it would be fun to bring Chrissy back on that date.
