‘Sister Wives’ Star Was Married to Her Cousin in Bombshell Revelation

This season of Sister Wives has had plenty of ups and downs.
Kody Brown, the patriarch at the head of the TLC reality show about a polygamist family, is now in a monogamous relationship with his current wife, Robyn. Of course, that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been drama with his three exes, Meri, Janelle, and Christine.
But on a recent episode of the long-running program, Christine revealed a shocking fact about her and her former husband to her current spouse, David Woolley.
Let’s just say we shouldn’t be surprised, but we are. We have the details below.
“Sister Wives” Has Some Kissing Cousins
The Browns were members of the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB), a fundamentalist group separate from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members are commonly known as Mormons. One of the aspects of the AUB is that its members continue to practice plural marriage, or polygamy, something which Mormons no longer do.
Within the AUB, Christine grew up in a prominent family. She explained that marrying within that church often meant being wed to a distant relative. She realized early on that she might have to marry an AUB convert, since she was related to nearly everyone else in the church.
“I did marry a convert… but I was still related to him too,” Christine told Woolley.
“That’s not cool,” he replied.
“We’re third cousins, once removed,” Christine explained with a laugh. “Fully legal. Fully.”
We’re Surprised, but No One Else Is
As much as Woolley (and we) were taken aback by this news, no one else in the Brown family seemed shocked by it. In polygamist sects, figuring out the roots of family trees can get very tricky. Janelle said that being with a distant cousin can be common.
Christine is continuing to move on from her marriage to Kody. She married widower Woolley in 2023. Additionally, she shed a significant amount of weight and shared her results last year.
“Weight loss looks different for everyone,” she shared. “Hormones, water weight, age, inflammation levels, blood sugar…etc. play a huge part in your journey. Don’t compare your journey to anyone other than your own. The only difference between these people and you, is they decide it was time for ‘day 1’ instead of ‘1 day.’”
